    How do I become a banksman ??

  11. Siôn Jones

    Hi Johnathan,

We offer a CPCS Slinger/Signaller (All duties) course over 4 days. This would then give you a red CPCS card valid for 2 years. You would also need to complete a CSCS health and safety test if you have not completed one in the last 2 years.

Hope this answers your query. If you have any further questions then please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Hi there,

I am interested in changing careers from my current office based role into becoming a Slinger.

Would youbbest able to send me across some details please, also do you think it’s a viable option for someone without a construction background?
    Thanks
    Rhys

  20. Siôn Jones

    Rhys,

    Rhys,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

I think a slinger/ signaller is a good place to start if you have an interest in heavy lifting within the construction industry. The course will offer you the basics upon which you can develop. We can also steer you in the direction of potential employers and agencies to help you towards gainful employment.

I have sent you an email with some details regarding our next courses and costs.

    Thanks again,

    Team ACOP

I am wanting to change my career offshore where i have a banksman slinger stage 3, iam wondering how i can get into the construction industry. I have many years of banking under my belt , but i think my cert does not cover construction.

  22. Siôn Jones

    Vesseilin,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

Unfortunately, the offshore qualifications are rarely accepted in construction.

For experienced slingers like yourself, we offer a 1 day course under the CPCS (Construction plant competence scheme) and test.

Here’s a link to the questions that form part of the current A40 slinger/ signaller test, which should give you a better idea of whats involved.

Let us know if we can be of further assistance?

  25. Andrew Lloyd

I have worked in construction for over twenty years ,
I have put my hand to formwork , sitefitting/erecting,
    Carpentry/ brickwork
But I decided to becom a slinger .
    I have Noticed in the past five years a massive surge of so called slingers / supervisors and app’s who have no clue in basic lifting techniques, lifting accessory’s and apparatus;
I have seen one fatality and seen countless near misses ,
I would strongly advise anyone wishing to become a slinger to gain a minimum of two years experience on site.

Four days in a training center doesn’t compensate for hands on experience.

  26. Jake

I am wanting to change my career from a factory job to a slinger could you email me info about how i do this

  27. Ryan

Passed my cscs and just passed my cpcs slinger signaller course !

Just looking for a job now but there mostly saying they need experience/ references

Is there agencies what can help me with this? I’m in Milton Keynes / Northampton area

    Thanks Ryan

  33. Matt

Hi, interested in a career change and becoming a slinger/banksman. No prior experience. Please can you advise on course costs and employment prospects with no site experience? Thanks.

  34. Siôn Jones

    Matt,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

We run a 4 day CPCS slinger/ signaller course for novices.

Once you have sat and hopefully passed the course you will be able to apply to a few operator agencies for a start as a slinger/ signaller. Alternatively you could contact a few employers that may be recruiting in your area. There are also a few groups on Facebook for CPCS operators and jobs that are often posting work and the going rates.

If you’d like to discuss this further please get in touch. I have sent you an email.

    Team ACOP

  35. Paul

I have a green cscs card and want to become a banksman slinger what course do i need and whats the diffirence between cscs and cpcs

  36. Siôn Jones

    Paul,

    Thanks for your comment.

CPCS (construction plant competence scheme) is the card scheme for lifting/ plant operators but also includes the CSCS (construction skills certification scheme) hallmark as part of it.
We offer a 4 day CPCS slinger/signaller course towards this qualification.

I have sent you an email with some more information.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Thanks again,

    Team ACOP

  37. Peter Thompson

I am already working as a banksman at a very busy recycling centre, but I am not required to do any slinging. I love the job but my current employer doesn’t seem to offer any further training or enhancements and the pay is pretty low.
I am very interested in taking this course to enhance my career. I have never done a CITB health and environmental course.

  38. Siôn Jones

    Hi Peter

    Thanks for getting in touch.

We offer the CPCS A40A Slinger/signaller (All Duties) course – this is a 4 day course for novices.

The training takes place at our centre in South Wales.

Prior to attending a CPCS course, you will need to pass the CITB Health Safety and Environment test for Operatives (CSCS), the cost for this is included within the course cost.

If you require any further information, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

I have sent you an email with some more information.

    Thanks again,

    Team ACOP

  39. Seth Holland

    Hello,
I’m planning on getting my cpcs card, but am concerned that without experience, I’ll have a hard time getting a job.

    What would you suggest?

    Kind regards,
    Seth Holland

  40. Siôn Jones

    Seth,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

We find that most people starting off on plant machinery will work through an agency. With this in mind, it may be worth ringing around a few agencies in your area to find out which categories are most in demand, and that way you can tailor your training around them.

However, i’m led to believe that there is a shortage of plant operator at present, so i’m sure you will be fine with most categories. What are are you most interested in?

I have sent you an email

    Thanks again,

    Siôn

  41. Ola

How do I become a slinger operator?

  42. Siôn Jones

    Hi

    Thanks for getting in touch.

To become a Slinger/Signaller you will need to attend a CPCS A40A Slinger/Signaller Course.

It’s a 4 day course, with a maximum of 3 learners per course.

Feel free to take a look at our calendar for upcoming courses.

Prior to attending a course, you will need to pass the CITB Health Safety & Environment test for operatives, unless you have already passed within the last 2 years.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind regards

    Marrie Inman
